Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin. It is the only US FDA approved treatment for the reduction of facial wrinkles such as Frown lines, Forehead Lines, Nose lines, Crow’s feet. Common brands include Botox, Xeomin and Dysport.
Botulinum works by relaxing the muscles of the face and thereby reducing the wrinkling of the skin overlying the injected muscles.
The procedure is a quick 10-15 minute procedure and involves injections using a very fine needle. The procedure is virtually painless, requires no anesthesia and is well tolerated.
The results are usually visible within 3-4 days of the injections and last between 4-6 months depending on the amount injected.
